Discretionary Fund
The Discretionary Fund gives our Trustees the flexibility to direct funding to where it is needed most at any given time. Rather than being tied to a single project or cause, this fund allows support to reach the people, organisations, and initiatives facing the greatest need in our community.
We gratefully acknowledge the support of Centrepoint Alliance delegates, whose contribution helps grow and sustain the Kura Tāwhiti Foundation Discretionary Fund.
Having this buffer in place is critical for supporting our community before pressures become crises. Unlike the Emergency Fund, which is activated to receive donations after specific local events, the Discretionary Fund allows Kura Tāwhiti to respond flexibly and effectively to emerging needs, gaps, and opportunities for impact as they arise.
Cantabrians understand this need for preparedness better than most. Events such as the earthquakes, the Port Hills fires, the mosque attacks, and the pandemic have shown how quickly our community's needs can change, and why having adaptable funding at the ready really matters.
The fund also enables Kura Tāwhiti Foundation to strengthen and extend support for existing projects when extra help is needed. By contributing to the Discretionary Fund, you will help ensure we can respond thoughtfully, effectively, and sustainably to both immediate challenges and longer-term community needs.
